Bryan Raydio - Diseducated EP

At last! I've finished some newish stuff. Here's my new EP "Diseducated". Three long, pulsing, epic tracks. Kind of a theme behind them, you can probably figure it out.

The title track "Diseducated" features some classic lines from the classic movie "Network", and is a nearly 12 minute long adventure through all kinds of madness. More a techno feel to this one. Been working on this one for several months now and I'm glad I'm finally done with it.

For those who have heard some of my earlier stuff, "Awaken" is a track I'd previously put online for some people, but I wasn't satisfied with it, so I've completely redone it, and it really doesn't sound anything like it did before. Get out your subwoofers for this one, it's a massive techy bass riff with some assorted funky percussion thrown in there, and some trippy psychedelic synths sandwiched in the middle.

"Starchaser" is a tribute, of sorts, to the late President John F. Kennedy, one of the great men of the 20th century. It features some poignant lines from this speech. This is a slower paced tune that builds near the end.

Scientists Of Sound vs Daft Punk

I skipped yesterday so today I have two great links for ya. Last week I went to see Scientists Of Sound cover Daft Punk's "Homework" album in its entirety. For the record this is probably the greatest electronic music album of all time.

I could tell you that it was an awesome show; I could tell you that I loved every second; I could probably even tell you that it was so hot in there I decided to have my own shirts off party. While these might be truths, these words don't really adequately describe the level of awesomeness achieved that evening. With that in mind, I give you:

and...

There are no words.

Bryan Raydio - Ain't Nobody

This is from an upcoming "white label" release. I've been working on it for a little while and it's gone through a few different incarnations, but here's what I've finally come up with. It's basically a reinterpretation of Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody", a pretty sweet track which a cool synth-pop sound to it that I wanted to mess around with.

The track is self-produced except for the vocals, which I believe are Chaka's, but they're not from the original version. This song starts with a down-tempo trip-hop beat, and then heads into a heavy progressive/tech house groove.

For the record this is a completely uncommissioned work, and because of that I have no intention of pursuing compensation or profit from it in the future, due to its probable copyright infringement. Chaka, if you ever happen to be checking this out and want it taken down, just let me know.

Until then, check out my version of "Ain't Nobody."

The Prodigy - Firestarter

The wonderful year that was 1997 brought one of my all-time favourite albums. "The Fat Of The Land", by The Prodigy, blew the lid off of what was possible in electronic awesomeness. I remember seeing this video featuring Keith Flint acting more than a little wacko on "The Wedge" on MuchMusic, back in the days when Much actually showed music videos and such... anyway it was awesome, I got the album, and listened to it constantly for days, probably more like a couple months. Enjoy.

Crazy awesome.

Bryan Raydio - Oscilliscape EP

In 2008 I switched my focus from DJing to producing, and here are the first couple tunes I came up with. I've released them before but have remixed and remastered them, just to tidy them up a little. New stuff on the way, in the meantime, here's my two track Oscilliscape EP. The first track is kind of an electro/progressive experiment, the second has a more psychedelic feel to it.

Sneaker Pimps - Spin Spin Sugar

Go back, waaaay back to 1996 and a unknown trip-hop group by the name of Sneaker Pimps appears on the UK, and subsequently North American, scene following in the steps of genre luminaries like Portishead and Massive Attack. "6 Underground" finds huge success amongst scores of people, and features in the movie "The Saint". Following up on this is "Spin Spin Sugar", which isn't quite as popular, but a remix by a certain Armand van Helden absolutely explodes in the nightclub scene, introducing me, and certainly plenty of others, to the "garage" style of music.

Wait a minute, that guy is also behind the Duck Sauce song too! Two awesomes, both by this Armand fellow? Coincidence? I think not.

Darkly awesome!

DJ B-Ray - Trance Mix 2002

I'm really not into trance much these days, but before house music really found its feet trance and "hard house" were the things that made me move. Here's an unfinished mix I did waaaay back in 2002, my first one I think. I didn't even use decks for this, just good old fashioned Cool Edit, to layer and paste. There wasn't any mastering or processing of any kind after I pasted, so consider this as purely for nostalgic purposes only.

Duck Sauce - Anyway

Once a day I'll try to find an awesome song for people to check out on the ol' YouTube. To start things off I'm going to post one that you've probably already seen or heard, but just in case, here it is again. An awesome song with an awesome video.

Freakin' awesome.

A little about me...

As you can tell, my name's Bryan and this is my snazzy new blog. Here I will be posting my music for you to download for free. Within the next couple days I should have some of my oldish stuff ready to go, and hopefully a couple of the new tracks for you to listen to as well.

As I am also a DJ I will be posting, from time to time, "live" mixes of sets recorded in my studio (aka bedroom). My interests are broad but I'm mostly into house of some sort these days. Deep-funky-electro-minimal-progressive, that sounds about right.

I'm originally from Toronto, now living in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and while I use a variety of different editors, effectors, and generators, I do my track sequencing in FL Studio. For mixing and mastering I use a pair of Ultrasone HFI-700 headphones (thanks to the siblings for them!) to guide my sound. They're pretty awesome.

Thanks for checking me out, and hopefully you get some kind of enjoyment or at least cheap entertainment out of this blog and my music. Next up: music!

Awesome!

I made a blog!
