The Cinematic Orchestra - Regen

The last album by this group was a collection of soundtracks to short films. They're all pretty good, but didn't really hit it out of the park with the critics. Whatever, I like it, and you'll like it, and that's all that matters.

This particular Dutch film was released in 1929 by Joris Ivens, and was later scored by Grey Reverend, and then performed by the group you hear below. Again, not a quick absorption, but full of hearty warmth.

The Cinematic Orchestra - Manhatta

This is actually a soundtrack for the 1921 short silent film by Charles Sheeler and Paul Strand. Gotta say they did a fantastic job. Watch the whole thing, it's worth the eleven minutes.

NOTE: For some stupid reason the film company has taken this video down. Hopefully it'll be back up shortly, I'll repost it when it is.

We Stopped Dreaming

I'm on a bit of a Neil deGrasse Tyson kick lately. His passion for science and reason is infectious. This is a pretty awesome five minute clip. Watch in HD.

Ice skating in Amsterdam

It's truly a crazy world that we live in. Athens is burning after another Greek bailout; American cops are still shooting innocent people; Mohamed Nasheed has been kicked out of office in the Maldives; Fukushima continues to melt and threatens Japan; the Republican state primaries are complete fiction; and the Chinese are having debt problems of their own, which begs the question, if China has no money, and Europe has no money, and the US has no money... who the hell has all the money?

None of this seems to matter in Amsterdam, however, where the current cold snap has frozen its canals for the first time in 15 years. Enjoy this little break from insanity, complete with a lovely song from Patrick Watson and the Cinematic Orchestra.

The Cinematic Orchestra - To Build A Home

The Cinematic Orchestra sounds like something you'd see in a Disney movie. A bunch of funny looking instruments playing themselves maybe. Thankfully, it's actually a bunch of people who make crazy cool music. Strangely, this video doesn't actually feature any of the group, but it's not a cover either. It's a live performance of a great track from the brilliant album "Ma Fleur". The track was co-written by Patrick Watson, who is the amazingly talented dude singing and playing piano here. Anyway check this out, and send it to all your friends, cause it's worth it.

Breathtaking.
