Even Ben, an ardent Republican, agrees with the Democrats. The facts strike again!

Do you know where your tax dollars are going?
I wonder how many Americans know this. I'll be back Sunday. Busy weekend ahead.

We Stopped Dreaming
I'm on a bit of a Neil deGrasse Tyson kick lately. His passion for science and reason is infectious. This is a pretty awesome five minute clip. Watch in HD.

How big is the US Debt?
Back in November I posted a visualization of the US debt, stacked in $100 bills. Here is another interesting way to look at it.

Ice skating in Amsterdam
It's truly a crazy world that we live in. Athens is burning after another Greek bailout; American cops are still shooting innocent people; Mohamed Nasheed has been kicked out of office in the Maldives; Fukushima continues to melt and threatens Japan; the Republican state primaries are complete fiction; and the Chinese are having debt problems of their own, which begs the question, if China has no money, and Europe has no money, and the US has no money... who the hell has all the money?
None of this seems to matter in Amsterdam, however, where the current cold snap has frozen its canals for the first time in 15 years. Enjoy this little break from insanity, complete with a lovely song from Patrick Watson and the Cinematic Orchestra.

Bluecrest CEO Michael Platt on the euro crisis
Well here's a step back to reality for a couple minutes. I'm hardly an economics major and this has a lot of jargon in it, but hopefully you'll get the gist of it, which is basically that the world economy is really gonna suck in 2012. For those of us with no money as it is, not a big deal. For the rest of you, good luck.

Obama decries the free market
In a speech given in Kansas, Obama first espoused the virtues of controversial former president Teddy Roosevelt, then decried the concept of free market economics, stopping just short of blaming it for the current financial crisis. I find it a hard pill to swallow that is was the free market, and not absolute corruption, that was the problem. I really wonder from day to day what Obama's personal political convictions really are.
