Deadmau5 - The Veldt

Hot off the press! The new Mau5track featuring Chris James on vocals. There's a great story behind the creation of this tune based on the short story by the recently passed Ray Bradbury. This is the video edit, the full length epic is here.

I promised my next EP a couple weeks ago, but I've had some mastering difficulties that I've been trying to work out. The tracks are now DONE at last, pending a final listening session this evening on a couple different sound systems. I've also remastered the last EP I sent out, since it seemed like the mid-levels disappeared on bigger systems, so I'll be re-releasing it (again...) as well. If everything goes to plan, you'll have some new stuff from me tomorrow. Until then, enjoy...

Bryan Raydio - Pacifico

As promised, here's the second "video" from the new EP. Just used some random visualizations with Winamp. Watch in HD! Also uploaded the third track, I'll include that as the "bonus beats" for today.

Bryan Raydio - Oscilliscape

...aaaand here's the "video" for the title track. It's a re-hash of the old one I posted a couple years ago, but I've switched the audio. Just there so I have it on YouTube. The second video is done, and I'll be uploading it in a bit, so it'll either be up here later tonight or by tomorrow morning.

Bryan Raydio - Oscilliscape EP

Let's try this again. I kinda released this one a couple years ago, but didn't like how it sounded and truth be told didn't really have a handle on the mixing and mastering side of things. After spending a lot of time learning new tricks and some proper skills, I think I'm a bit closer now. Enough to re-release this EP anyway. You can preview each track on Soundcloud, download the individual tracks from there, or download the whole EP from the link below. Enjoy.

Jimmy Swift Band - When Worlds Collide

I remember my first JSB experience, way back in the day. Well, sorta. Bits and pieces really. Mostly a blur, but what a blur! If colour could stream out from the band and the instruments and the sound itself, and to be fair it often does, there would be a rainbow of energy so emancipating you would think you had slid down straight into the pot of lucky charms and had absorbed all their greatness in one fell swoop. There have rarely been live performers more spiritually liberating than these guys. I could go on, but we have music to listen to.

These guys rocked the UNB campus last night (sadly I missed it) but the amazing Aaron Collier and colossal Craig Mercer will instead don their Scientists of Sound outfits and obliterate our senses with the pumping madness of Daft Punk's "Homework" album once again. For those who missed the last show, read my review here, and for the love of all things awesome get out and see this show. Or don't. And be the one who missed out who has to listen to me and everyone else saying how freakin' awesome it was. Here's some JSB to get us through the day until we hit up the Capital.

That's mystical Mike MacDougall keeping it steady on the 7-string monster bass.

Snot - Stoopid

It was another sweet metal show last night at the Capital. The headliners were The Daisy Anthesis from Saint John, and I have to say they were pretty impressive. They're a trio, all clearly talented musicians, and they have great stage presence as well. Expect big things from these guys in the future.

Meanwhile, Jarrett played some Snot, something I hadn't heard or thought about in a while. It was a great reminder of how awesome those guys were, and it's a damn shame that their lead singer Lynn Strait left us in a car accident in 1998. There was an air of greatness about them.

Completely unrelated awesomeness.

Wolf Parade - Modern World

I'm rockin' all kinds of stuff at the Phoenix tonight, with DJ Bones throwin' down some mad indie tracks downstairs at the Capital. It's the official Wolf Parade after party, so you'd better warm up with a little somethin' somethin' from the paraders themselves!

BONUS BEATS!

Mark Knight - Party Animal

You'll probably hear that one tonight!

Bryan Raydio - Vocal House Mix

I've been working on a few new tracks but in the meantime I thought I'd put a couple "live" mixes up here for fun. This is the first one, it's kind of a club-style vocal house mix. Not classic vocal house, more progressive, but vocals nonetheless. This is probably about as far mainstream as I like to go.

I mixed this on two Gemini MPX-40 cd players using an American Audio Q-D5 MKII mixer. The cd players aren't very good. The pitch control has a 0.1% minimum, so for longish house mixes you really have to ride the pitch bend or jog wheel to keep it steady. To make matters worse, these players have all kinds of problems keeping the beat steady when you change the pitch, particularly with the keylock on. To put this in perspective the Pioneer CDJ-1000's (and the 400's for that matter) have a 0.02% pitch resolution and are bang on. Oh well, you get what you paid for I guess. Scratching is possible on these things, but the cue point slips, again making things pretty difficult. The mixer is pretty basic but it has full kills on the EQs and the faders are pretty smooth.

Anyway the mix isn't perfect, but I have other stuff I want to move on to so I'm posting it anyway. There's a slight skip in the breakdown in the Rustler track because my computer skipped for some reason, and there's a couple choppy transitions I would change in the future, but it's not too too bad. Mostly just a fun mix of some cool clubby tunes and some neat remixes of old classics you may not have heard before. Also a shameless plug of my own track right in the middle.

*NOTE* - I received a DMCA complaint about this post. I have no idea what they were complaining about, and when I responded asking for clarification, I got no reply. Since I can't be bothered to 'fight' for the contents of this post, I've instead removed the vocal house mix from the post, and also from Soundcloud. It wasn't that flash anyway. I'll leave the tracklist below, and if you're really interested in hearing it message me and I'll send it to you.

Bryan Raydio - Diseducated EP

At last! I've finished some newish stuff. Here's my new EP "Diseducated". Three long, pulsing, epic tracks. Kind of a theme behind them, you can probably figure it out.

The title track "Diseducated" features some classic lines from the classic movie "Network", and is a nearly 12 minute long adventure through all kinds of madness. More a techno feel to this one. Been working on this one for several months now and I'm glad I'm finally done with it.

For those who have heard some of my earlier stuff, "Awaken" is a track I'd previously put online for some people, but I wasn't satisfied with it, so I've completely redone it, and it really doesn't sound anything like it did before. Get out your subwoofers for this one, it's a massive techy bass riff with some assorted funky percussion thrown in there, and some trippy psychedelic synths sandwiched in the middle.

"Starchaser" is a tribute, of sorts, to the late President John F. Kennedy, one of the great men of the 20th century. It features some poignant lines from this speech. This is a slower paced tune that builds near the end.

Bryan Raydio - Ain't Nobody

This is from an upcoming "white label" release. I've been working on it for a little while and it's gone through a few different incarnations, but here's what I've finally come up with. It's basically a reinterpretation of Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody", a pretty sweet track which a cool synth-pop sound to it that I wanted to mess around with.

The track is self-produced except for the vocals, which I believe are Chaka's, but they're not from the original version. This song starts with a down-tempo trip-hop beat, and then heads into a heavy progressive/tech house groove.

For the record this is a completely uncommissioned work, and because of that I have no intention of pursuing compensation or profit from it in the future, due to its probable copyright infringement. Chaka, if you ever happen to be checking this out and want it taken down, just let me know.

Until then, check out my version of "Ain't Nobody."

Bryan Raydio - Oscilliscape EP

In 2008 I switched my focus from DJing to producing, and here are the first couple tunes I came up with. I've released them before but have remixed and remastered them, just to tidy them up a little. New stuff on the way, in the meantime, here's my two track Oscilliscape EP. The first track is kind of an electro/progressive experiment, the second has a more psychedelic feel to it.
