Hollerado - Pick Me Up

I think I saw these guys live once. I think.

Clubfeet - Heartbreak

Here's a lovely little summer song, to celebrate the winter...

Dubmatix - Pull Up Selector

Solid dub album comin' atcha from the T-dot as well. A great find if you can get it.

Billy Woods - Cuito Cuanavale

Solid album from Mr. Woods this year, check it out if you're into this one.

Kid Koala - Moon River

Just in time! Here's a pretty unique take on a classic. That krazy koala kid...

Hey Rosetta! - New Sum (Nous Sommes)

This one came out last year but it's snowing out now so it seems appropriate now. Hey look! I'm all caught up. Nice work time machine! Now to keep on schedule...

The Belle Comedians - Rosy

Great bunch of guys these, definitely go check them out if you get a chance, and have a beer with them after the show. Nice work by the Loyalists and Fergus Breen on the video!

Scotty & The Stars - Don't Bully

Here's one for the kids. Good advice.

Sunday, December 8, 2013

Baroness - Stretchmarker

Right, enough piano, here's two guitars! I should work for Gillette.

Tom Odell - Sense

Put the guitar down, and have a seat at the piano.

Matt Corby - Brother

How about some acoustic stuff? Sure, let's start with this one.

Saturday, December 7, 2013

B.A. Johnston - Snow Shovel Blues / Hot Nerd

More animation! This crazy chap is the man.

Radiohead - A Wolf At The Door

Gotta love the animation on this one. Yet another track coming right up!

Oceansize - Catalyst

I'm going back in time to post this one on time. There might be a couple more coming up real fast.

Friday, December 6, 2013

Bird Peterson - The Holiday Spectacular

Creds to Noematus for this one. The Birdman is a killer DJ and he's done an awesome job putting together a crazy group of visuals to go along with his stellar holiday mix. Play this one on repeat. Maybe watch it too. Amazing.

Toro Y Moi - Rose Quartz

I'm not really into this guy's other stuff too much if I'm honest, but I love this track. Just got so much soul. Great for kicking off a house party or a late night set. Mellow goodness.

Kraak & Smaak - Good For The City

Right, it's Friday so it's time to get our funk on. I'm still on the fence about the new album as a whole, but this track is pretty dope.

Thursday, December 5, 2013

Gregory Porter - Liquid Spirit

Now some soul from this groovy Californian.

Electro Deluxe - Devil

More funky live jazz, this time from France... but their English is so good!

New Cool Collective - Marche Funebre Rocksteady Dirge

Good day for jazz I think, because it's a little windy and a little damp, and this kind of stuff might lift our dreary spirits. This has a bit of ska to it as well. Gotta love them horns.

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

Brutus - Personal Riot

I'm not really sure how I came about these fellows, but I'm glad I did, because they're pretty awesome. Apparently they're Scandinavian and they've been around since around 2008. Good to know!

A Perfect Circle - By And Down

Another live performance, this time from Maynard, Billy Howerdel and co. Their label decided to put out a greatest hits album this year, which is kind of stupid considering they really only have three albums out, one of which being a collection of cover songs. Anyway here's the first new track from them in a decade, which can be found in studio version on the best of disc. Does it live up to their other stuff?

Sandrider - Children

How about some heavy stuff? I like heavy. I found these guys courtesy of Red Fang's recommendation. They're pretty rockin' and there's a bit more too them than mere screamo metal. You can check out the full live performance here.

Explosions In The Sky - Postcard From 1952

Now here's a fantastic video that's really a short film in and of itself.

Atoms For Peace - Ingenue

While we're on the topic of side projects, here's Thom Yorke's wacky experimental group, and really this track wouldn't sound out of place on a Radiohead album. Nice moves, Thom.

Battle Box 002 - 3D On Jupiter

Speaking of Massive Attack, here's Robert Del Naja of said fame with a little side project thingy he has goin' on. Warning, this one's pretty wild.

Monday, December 2, 2013

Tree - Demons

Awesome track that kinda reminds me of Massive Attack. More please.

SBTRKT - Hold On / Migration

Here's a live cut featuring Sampha on vocals. These guys have been touring fairly extensively since the release of that amazing album, hopefully they get back in the studio one of these days because it's time for more damnit!

Deadmau5 & Imogen Heap - Telemiscommunications

I'm late... but I'm posting 'em anyway. This is a collaboration of sorts, well really it's just Imo singing vocals over a re-edit of Community Nap, a great little track that the Mau5 dropped a couple years back. Check it, yo.

Lake Street Dive - Live on KEXP

Lastly, this fantastic quartet with a smooth, soulful sound and featuring the fabulous Rachael Price on vocals. Highly recommend checking them out if you get a chance.

SONG LIST
1. Bad Self Portraits
2. Better Than
3. Just Ask
4. You Go Down Smooth

Gogol Bordello - Live on KEXP

...and from Manhattan, these crazy gypsy-loving madmen who are super-fun live.

SONG LIST
1. Malandrino
2. My Companjera
3. The Other Side Of The Rainbow
4. I Just Realized

Red Fang - Live on KEXP

Hmm... where did the rest of November go? Not exactly what I had in mind. Anyway, new personal goal - post EVERY DAY in December. Of course not forgetting that the Best of 2013 is due in a little over three weeks. The clock is ticking! Let's kick this off with three excellent live performances from KEXP Seattle, one of the best live music series' on the next. First up, the bearded monsters from Portland, Oregon.

SONG LIST
1. Crows In Swine
2. Blood Like Cream
3. Failure
4. No Hope

Pentatonix - Daft Punk Medley

What was I saying about cover songs? You've probably seen this one already but what the hell, watch it again. It's nuts.

Man Man - Head On

Now for a different kind of crazy, a happy crazy. These guys are great.

The Knife - Full Of Fire

Warning: this song is insane. I highly recommend the album if you somehow enjoy this.

Tuesday, November 12, 2013

Puddles Pity Party - Lonely Guy

You might recognize this clown from that Lorde cover that's been making the rounds. Seems like this is the new way to break into the music industry, find a great song and re-interpret it and hope you go viral. Fair enough I suppose, it's a little old but it's a tried and tested formula so why not.

Anyway if you happen to see a 7 foot tall guy walking around in a clown suit around New York, chances are it's Puddles and you should ask him for a song. Like this Dexter Romweber classic!

The Black Angels - Broken Soldier

Here's another cool live band. Heard this song a while back and decided to check out some more of them. Glad I did.

Tony Cox - You Asked For It

Story time. I saw this fella from South Africa in a very private show of about 20 people at an awesome secret venue in Fredericton. His guitar skills were unique to say the least. It was a fantastic show, and I would highly recommend seeing him live if you get the chance. A very affable fellow who likes to lead into his songs with a story or three. Enjoy.

Jungle - The Heat

Seriously. This song is awesome. Chillwave with a touch-a da juice.

Jungle - Drops

This one reminds me of jazzed up Bon Iver.

Jungle - Platoon

Just came across these guys and they are unreal, so it's gonna be an all-Jungle day today.

Friday, November 8, 2013

Omar - The Man

Love this track. Mad creds to Noematus for this hookup. Dat bass (clarinet)!

The Pimps Of Joytime - Jaxta Funk

Ya I dig that funky groove, let's have some more of that.

The Stepkids - Sweet Salvation

Who are these guys? First I've heard of 'em, but this is pretty illin.

Thursday, November 7, 2013

Buke & Base - Houdini Crush

This crazy duo have released a new LP and you can certainly bank on it being on my best of 2013 list as it's fantastic. I also enjoy the creativity of their live performances, like this one.

Aloe Blacc & Mike Einziger - Wake Me Up

Forget the absolutely rubbish EDM version of this song, this is how it should have been presented all along. Einziger is from Incubus, in case you were wondering.

Emiliana Torrini - Tookah

Hmm, I think I stopped by here last Friday? Better make up for the absence with some live music on this dreary Thursday. This is the title track from Emiliana's new album.

Friday, November 1, 2013

CFCF - Beyond Light

Now something a little more thought provoking. This is from the newest work of Michael Silver out of Montreal, and I'm a fan of his work, though if I'm honest I was a little underwhelmed by the new album as a whole. It's not bad, I just expected something really amazing. Decide for yourself, and enjoy this track.

Tirzah & Micachu - I'm Not Dancing

I know absolutely nothing about this duo, but for only a couple minutes this is a pretty cool little track. It has an air of sincerity about it and I love the minimal feel.

Tom Trago - True Friends

It's raining and windy outside so it's a good day to get this blog back up and running properly. This fella is from Amsterdam and he's just put out his third LP called The Light Fantastic. It's a pretty decent effort and this is the first single.

Friday, October 18, 2013

Bryan Raydio - Choosing Altitude

It's taken the best part of a month to recover from the ridiculous Harvest Jazz festivities. Add to that many other calamities since and this blog has been strangely silent. Time to fix that again, especially since there's so little time to fit in great new music before the year-end best-of countdown!

I was hoping to have a full EP ready for today, but alas it's not quite there yet so here's a song from another upcoming EP. It's kind of a funky synth-heavy chillwave experimental joint. Enjoy.

Friday, September 13, 2013

Black Joe Lewis - Black Snake

...and these guys Saturday night! Awesome!

Big Sam's Funky Nation - Big Ole Booty

I'm checkin' out these characters tonight!

Scotty & The Stars - Time To Get Up

Right, I'm off to Fredericton to see some Harvest Jazz. Let's hope I don't drown in the midst. Here's one for the kids. If you've got some, check these cats out.

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

J.J. Grey & Mofro - The Sweetest Thing

Can't go to that show? Check out these guys at the Blues Tent!

Samuel James - Nineteen

...and following him up is this fellow from Portland!

Steve Strongman - Haven't Seen It Yet

It's Harvest week in Fredericton! I'll be there later this week, but tonight just one of the great acts hitting the stage is this chap from Hamilton, Ontario.

Friday, August 30, 2013

The Lions - This Generation

Now something a little newer... back at ya tomorrow.

Musical Youth - Pass The Dutchie

A little more classic ska reggae. Ya man.

The Specials - Ghost Town

Almost long weekend time, for normal people anyway, not so much for me. How 'bout we kick it off today with some oldies? Creds to ShAmos for this one.

Thursday, August 29, 2013

Pearl Jam - Mind Your Manners

New album out in October! Sweeeeeeet... diggin' this first track!

Thom Swift & Brian Bourne - El Camino

I was lucky enough to witness this superb live performance in person.

Big Wreck - Glass Room

Fixed my twitter feed.

Rejoice!

Now enjoy one of my favorite live acts.

Wednesday, August 28, 2013

Nine Inch Nails - Come Back Haunted

New album coming soon. Well excited. Here's the first single. Want more? Here.

Naibu - Gloom

A little liquid drum and bass? Or maybe this is jungle? Sure, yes, absolutely.

Atoms For Peace - Judge, Jury and Executioner

Thom Yorke has a few side projects on the go, this is one of them. Damned genius.

Melt Yourself Down - Release!

Arguably my favorite disc of the year so far. So funky, so so good. Warning: INSANE trippy video ahead that you must watch in HD.

Disclosure - When A Fire Starts To Burn

From the UK, if you're into electronic music and haven't checked out this album yet, YOU ARE MISSING OUT. Just sayin', oh so quietly...

Queens of the Stone Age - I Appear Missing

Let's start grungy today. Awesome new album from the Stoners. Here's a crazy animated video from one of the cooler tracks.

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

Beloved Foe - The Sinner And The Saint

Rockin' track from some fellow east coasters, featuring Tonella on lead vocals!

The Bronx - Youth Wasted

My favorite hardcore band going right now, these guys kick ass.

Dean Zimmer - Drummer Wanted

I do not practice enough. Check out this short video story.

Monday, August 19, 2013

Friday, August 16, 2013

David Wong - Get Lucky

Another Daft Punk inspiration. This is probably the first violin cover I've posted.

Breach - Jack

This is just... well... um...

Coheed & Cambria - Number City

Brand spankin' new video for this great track. Coheed with trumpets? Awesome!

Monday, August 12, 2013

Shad - Stylin'

New track from Shad. He was pretty dope live at Folly Fest. This one is produced by Skratch Bastid and features Saukrates. Best rapper in Canada? At least.

Suuns - 2020

I've realised that I have a huge back log of tracks I wanted to post, so here's another one. These guys are from Montreal, and this is a trippy video to go with a trippy song.

Aaron Evans & Generik - We All Work

I don't know about you but I've been having all kinds of problems with Shockwave crashing lately, seems like it can't handle a number of YouTube embeds so the front page now only has 4 days of posts instead of 7, and I'm using the iframe code to see if that helps at all. Also put a verification check on the comments to hopefully ward away the stupid spammers.

Promised to return last week and I immediately took almost a week off. Not good. Here's some cool live hip hop with beatbox accompaniment on the San Diego trolley. Enjoy.

Tuesday, August 6, 2013

Staind - It's Been Awhile

Well, just Aaron Lewis really, but close enough. Anyway I've kind of abandoned this place as I've had lots of other projects on the go. I do have lots of good music videos to share though, so maybe it's time to fire it up again. Mayzel, can't dance.
