Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive

I'm still alive! Just taking an extended hiatus! I've moved, and now have an in-house studio that I'm sequestering myself in for the next 3 weeks... so stay tuned, because when I return I'll have all kinds of crazy new original tunes for ya. I'll try to fit in some blog posts in the meantime, but they'll be sporadic at best. In the meantime I'll try and keep some Twitter updates rolling... but don't lose faith, September 1st brings new beats! This one goes out to Big Trev.

Thursday Throwdown

The weekend is going to be long and arduous for me as it looks like I'll have time for about 6 hours of sleep between tomorrow morning and Sunday evening, but them's the breaks. In lieu of this I'm posting a few tunes to keep you occupied until then. Kicking it off will be FM Hi Low, who are at the Capital tonight with Weak Size Fish which will be an awesome show. If you're not into that, it's Major Rager with Tyler Aikens in the Phoenix. If you're not into that either, I can't help you. Next post will be another Monday Megapost. Until then, enjoy.

FM Hi Low - Riches [Live @ Mount Tremblant]

Weak Size Fish - Smoke Stax [Live @ The Capital]

Wretch 32 - Traktor

Sophie Rimheden & Eboi - Whiz Kid

Stinj - Bang Bros

BONUS FUNKY JAM!

The Tea Party - The River

After beating my poor legs up running far too many kilometers yesterday, today I am going to float down a river in a tube. Glorious. Almost as glorious as this awesome live performance by the Tea Party of their awesome song from their awesome album "Splendor Solis". Get it? Got it? Good.

Bon Iver - Calgary

It's funny how our perceptions of time and space change as technology advances our ability to travel and communicate with each other. In the ever-evolving world of the internet, for example, and the recent proliferation of so-called "viral" videos, once something has been around for more than a couple weeks, it's old news. This is the "new" Bon Iver video, but it's been out for almost three weeks now, so maybe it's old too. I don't know. Anyway these guys have been around for a couple years now and have garnered quite a bit of critical acclaim, though admittedly not from me. I've largely ignored them but recently got my hands on this track and thought "hmmm... that's actually pretty good." I've listened to it many times since then, and just found the "new" video for it. If you're already into these guys, you're welcome. If not, you're welcome.

Tonight, the Phoenix. Tomorrow, the river.

Shotgun Jimmie - Used Parts

No crazy rants today, just some crazy music. This is Shotgun Jimmie, a bit of a looney who stops in at the Capital when he's in town. I'm not sure I would describe him as a virtuoso, but he's entertaining, and he thinks he's a cat. Take that for however you like.

Soul II Soul - Back To Life

I've been perusing some of the forums in the vastness of the interweb today, and one of the once-again popular topics, thanks to yesterday being July 4th, is President Obama's birth certificate. For what it's worth, here's my two cents. I wish this topic would go away, but probably not for the same reasons as many of you. I happen to be proficient enough with Photoshop and other editing programs to know that the birth certificate is fake. No really, it is. A complete forgery. Don't believe me? Here is a document from a more "reputable" source showing clearly that it is.

So if it's a fake, why don't I care? It's simple really. What do people hope to achieve through pursuing this? An impeachment? Then what? Joe Biden takes over. Are we to assume that anything changes at this point, given the fact that Mr. Biden is already vice-president and part of the very same government that is in place right now? That's just silly.

The only good I can see coming from this type of campaign is to inform American people that their government is full of cheats and liars and they should start to focus more on local government than their obviously failed national one. I think a good deal of people are already on that page anyway, and if they're not they are in denial and this issue won't sway them any more than the other far more pertinent issues, like American foreign policy. Political reform has to come from the bottom when it's clear that none will ever come from the top.

Monday Mega Post

I took a week's vacation for no good reason other than it seemed like the thing to do. Had a busy weekend, and I've been considering how best to integrate the blog into my new website which began construction today. I think I can figure out how to embed it into the website, so that may be the best route. Anyway it'll be a few weeks yet I think before I get it all sorted, so in the meantime here's a week's worth of tunes to make up for the past week. Oh and by the way I watched Transformers 3 yesterday at the theater, and it sucked. Don't waste your time watching it. You can thank me for the 2.5 hours of your life I've just saved you later.

Ambition - A.M.B.I.T.I.O.N.

Dillon Francis & Diplo - Que Que

Hey Rosetta! - Young Glass [Live @ The Edge]

Ladi6 - Walk Right Up

Oh Land - White Nights [Live @ Big Ugly Yellow Couch]

Siriusmo - Idiologie

Phew, what a weekend, capped off last night by the crazy crowd at the Phoenix. Ridiculous, and another job well done. Great to have everyone out enjoying themselves for far too long once again. I'm too tired to come up with anything more inspired right now but here's a couple sweet electronic chunes to keep those feet tappin' for the rest of the evening. Heck, there's even a guest appearance from Spongebob. Enjoy.

Siriusmo - Idiologie

BONUS BEATS!

Solomun - Love Recycled 1

What a sweet groove.

Spookey Ruben - These Days Are Old

The sun is out, so it's time to go outside. Not until I post some really goofy music though. This one is interesting to me because I remember seeing it on MuchMusic when it first came out and thinking "what the hell is this?", and more because it was really weird than really good. Yet still I remember the song in all its weirdness, and for whatever reason think that it's cool. I never really followed that wacky Spookey Ruben guy much after this, but maybe I'll look him up again now. Enjoy the sunshine.

Radiohead - Staircase

Hot off the press! This is new Radiohead from their upcoming "From The Basement" session. The last one was awesome, so I expect this new effort to be just as good. The song is a bit trippy, subtle rather than epic, but a really cool chill out tune. They've even brought in another drummer on the pads to give them a little extra depth. Good stuff, I'll take more please.

This is worth a look too for Radiohead fans.

Luke Abbott - Whitebox Stereo

Thom Yorke and co. of Radiohead fame have been posting little charts of random songs that they've been listening to, which usually yields at least one that's not completely wacky. This latest "office chart" had a couple crazy ones I thought I'd pass on to you. Definitely not for everybody, but hey, neither am I.

BONUS BEATS!

Deadboy - Ain't Gonna Lie

That video is just nuts.

Karaocake - Medication

It's a Monday, which for "normal" people means back to work. Suckers. Maybe one day I'll regard this as "normal" for me, but until then I'm going to enjoy my Mondays. In fact, I usually enjoy all my days since work is fun for me and even on my pretty limited income I can still do most of the modestly enjoyable things that I want to. I think Karaocake has it about right, whoever they are. So here's your Monday musical medication to get you through the week.

Here's to Mondays.

Porno For Pyros - Pets

I'm at the Phoenix right now and realised I've been lazy and haven't updated today. No time to write anything so here's one of my favorite alternative rock songs from back in the day.

Come visit me at the bar!

Chris Garneau - Dirty Night Clowns

Ashley posted this one yesterday, and though I've never heard of Chris Garneau before, I thought this track and the video was super cool. It reminds me quite a bit of Sufjan Stevens. In fact, I should just post one of his tracks too. Yes, let's do that.

BONUS HORN SECTION!

Sufjan Stevens - Come On! Feel The Illinoise!

Great track from the brilliant 2005 album "Illinois".

DJ B-Ray - Indie Start With A

I took a few days off, wasn't feeling very inspired and needed to recharge the batteries. Here's a live mix I recorded last night at the Capital, comprised of some indie/nu-disco/house tracks that I thought worked together. Free download! Enjoy.

DJ B-Ray - Indie Starts With A

See you at the Phoenix tonight!

Snailhouse - Apple

...and now for something completely different... Snailhouse is at the Capital tonight for an early evening soiree, which is always a great time. Mike Feuerstack is the main man and he usually has a Cobham or a Cunjak with him when he's in town to help with the soothing vibes. Definitely not high-tempo but if you're into something slow and fulfilling, I suggest you head down and check it out.

Foo Fighters - Walk

I was gonna post some other stuff here but I just watched this new Foo Fighters video and felt compelled to post it because it's awesome. It's an homage to the classic Michael Douglas film "Falling Down", which is one of my favourites.

Foo Fighters - Walk

Time to go for a walk.

Computers Want Me Dead - We Walk In Circles

Computers Want Me Dead. No really. They probably do. Creepy buggers. All jokes aside, these guys with the crazy name are from New Zealand, kind of an electro-pop crew that reminds me of Bag Raiders but with more of a rock influence. I dig the heavy analog synth sounds they're using, sounds like something you might like too. Enjoy.
